Aggies Defeat Nevada To Gain Doubleheader Split On Saturday

DAVIS, Calif. - After dropping their morning match against Santa Clara, 7-0, UC Davis rallied for a 6-1 victory over Nevada in a women's tennis doubleheader Saturday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. With the split the Aggies see their season record move to 3-7.

In the day's first match, the Broncos captured the opening doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches, two by identical 8-3 scores.

In singles action, Santa Clara clinched the match by taking all six matches. The Broncos posted straight-set wins at No.2 where Kelly Leathers defeated Robin Guier, 6-2, 6-4, at No.5 when Kimberly Daniel defeated Yuka Otaka 6-1, 6-4, and at No.6 as Jessie Strunk defeated Amanda Wise, 6-1, 6-3.

The Aggies captured the first sets at both No.1 and No.3. At No.1 Ally Muller could not hold the lead when Janalle Kaloi rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win while Catherine Cochrane dropped a tiebreaker against Audrey Wingo before posting a 6-7, 6-2, 6-0 win. At No.4, Aggie freshman Kaitlin Callan dropped a third-set supre tiebreaker, falling to Erika Barnes, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0.

In the afternoon against Nevada, The Aggies took momentum ealry by winning the doubles point then clinched the match with five singles wins.

Muller and Guier won at No.1 with an 8-6 victory over Kristen Davenport and Fiorella Velez while Audrey Wingo and Ashley Lehman defeated Christine Tilley and Audrey Bardot, 8-3 at No.3.

In singles play, UC Davis won at the top four spots, along with No.6. Muller posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over Velez at No.1 while Guier won 6-0, 6-2 at No.2 over Bach-Lan Pham. At No.3, Wingo posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over Davenport while Callan picked up her first dual win of the season, defeating Bardot, 6-4, 7-5. Callan was down 4-1 in the second before rallying for the win.



The Aggies picked up their final win at No.6 when Wise defeated De Silva, 6-3, 6-2. Nevada earned its only point of the match when Myriam Bouchlaka defeated Otaka at No.5, 6-2, 4-6, (11-9).

UC Davis returns to the court on Tuesday when it travels to San Francisco to face the University of San Francisco. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
