DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis swept all six singles matches en route to a 7-0 victory over Sonoma State in a women's tennis match Wednesday afternoon at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
With the win the Aggies improve to 4-8 on the season.
The Aggies captured two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point. Ally Muller and Robin Guier won 8-2 at No.1 over Brianna Bailey and Gina Dunch while Audrey Wingo and Ashley Lehman defeated Nicole Warm and Amy Piepenbrink, 8-1, at No.3. The Seawolves managed a win at No.2 doubles when Kelly Murphy and Becky Kiehn defeated Amanda Wise and Laura Tidik, 8-5.
In singles play UC Davis won all six matches in straight sets. Muller won at No.1 when Bailey had to retire trailing, 6-1, 2-1, while Guier dropped just one game in defeating Murphy, 6-1, 6-0 at No.2. Wingo defeated Dunch 6-2, 6-3 at No.3 with Callan taking a close first set before pulling away from Warm at No.4, 6-4, 6-1.
Otaka rode a break in each set to defeat Kiehn at No.5, 6-3, 6-3, while Wise matched Guier's score with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kimberly Coulson at No.6.
"It was nice to get a win, and a win in convincing fashion," said Aggie head coach Bill Maze. "This was our fourth match in five days so we are a little beat up. We now get a break in the schedule, can tend to some injuries, and allow (the players) to concentrate on their coursework."
UC Davis next returns to the court on April 2, when it hosts Cal Poly.
