GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis team picked up a 6-0 non-conference victory over visiting Portland State on Saturday. The match began at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on the UC Davis campus early in the morning but, due to rain, was completed late at night at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center in Gold River.
The two teams began singles outside before rain halted play less than an hour into the match. Play resumed inside at 9 p.m., and the Aggies went on to win all six singles matches in straight sets.
Shawdee Rouhafza was the first Aggie to finish with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kylea Gleason at No. 5. Ellie Edles was next off at No. 4 when she completed a 6-1, 6-0 win against Marti Pellicano. The lead increased to 3-0 as Noelle Eades defeated Emily McClaran at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0.
The clinching match came at No. 3 where Lauren Curry cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tara Vadali. UC Davis picked up its final two points when Dahra Zamudio and Herzyl Legaspi won at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
The win improved the Aggies to 5-7 on the year and kept the squad perfect at home with a 4-0 record.
