ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - UC Davis captured all six singles matches in straight sets as it ended a four-match losing skid with a 9-0 victory over Sonoma State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's tennis match Friday afternoon.
With the win the Aggies improve to 5-6 on the season, 3-2 in CCAA play.
The Aggies began the afternoon by taking all three doubles matches. Janice Salomon and Nancy Mok posted an 8-1 win over Kelly Murphy and Brianna Bailey at No.1. Gretchen Schantz and Ally Muller picked up their team-leading ninth doubles win of the season with an 8-4 victory over Deah Toby and Julie Fisher at No.2. Jennifer Fong and Christy Battig made it a sweep with an 8-2 at No.3 over Amy Piepenbrink and Hilary Hedges.
In singles play the Aggies had little trouble in clinching the win early as all six matches were won in straight sets. Battig won for the fourth time in her last five matches at No.5 while Salmon snapped a four-match losing skid with a convincing win at No.1.
"It's certainly nice to get back into conference play and get back in the win column," said Aggie Head Coach Bill Maze. "Sonoma was down a little bit as they were missing a starter, but we'll take it. It's a nice way to end the quarter."
UC Davis will now be off until March 28 when it faces the University of Portland a to begin a three-match swing through the Pacific Northwest.
