McMINNVILLE, Ore. - UC Davis captured all six singles matches in straight sets as it handed Linfield College just its second loss of the season with a 9-0 victory Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Aggies improve to 6-7 on the season and 1-1 on their three-match roadtrip through the Northwest. Linfield falls to 8-2 on the year.
The day began with UC Davis claiming all three doubles matches as the No.1 duo of Janice Salomon and Nancy Mok defeated Nicole Ralston and Kirsten Changstrom, 8-5. Gretchen Schantz and Ally Muller won at No.2, 8-4, defeating Kasey Stroud and Lindsey Carlson while Jennifer Fong and Christy Battig easily won at No.3, 8-1.
In singles play the Aggies had little trouble as no player surrendered more than six games in their match. Battig at No.4 and Kerri Roemer at No.6 won by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores. Salomon defeated Ralston 6-4, 6-2 at No.1 while Schantz won 6-3, 6-2 over Changstrom at No.2. Mok picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No.3 over Carlson and Fong swept Caroline Kunz, 6-1, 6-4 at No.5
"It was nice to get outside after playing Friday's match indoors," said Aggie Head Coach Bill Maze. "We came back strong today and played very well. Linfield is a good Division III school as their record shows. After finals and a little break, there is always an adjustment period and we are working our way back from that and today's match is a step in the right direction."
UC Davis concludes its three-match roadswing with a Sunday meeting at Portland State. Matchtime is set for 11am.
