POMONA, Calif. - UC Davis completed its sixth and final year of California Collegiate Athletic Association with an 8-1 victory over Cal Poly Pomona in a women's tennis match Wednesday morning at the Kellogg Tennis Complex.

With the win the Aggies improve to 9-5 on the season, 7-1 in CCAA play. After six years as a member of the CCAA, UC Davis will begin play against Big West Conference opponents next season as it reclassifies from NCAA Division II to Division I. The Aggies completed the six-year run with a 43-5 conference mark. Pomona falls to 5-9 overall, 2-3 in conference action.

The day began with UC Davis sweeping all three doubles matches. At No.1, the Aggie duo of Ally Muller and Nancy Mok defeated the ITA West Region doubles champions , Dehlia Feliz and Katrina Holmberg, 8-4. Jennifer Fong and Christy Battig then beat Renee Paquillo and Jennie Burggraf, 8-4, at No.2 while Amanda Wise and Ashley Lehman had little trouble defeating Erica Lin and Nanor DeKermenjian, 8-3, at No.3.

In singles play the Aggies captured five of six matches to close out the day. No.4 Yuka Otaka defeated DeKermenjian, 6-4, 6-3 while Audrey Wingo cruised by Burggraf, 6-0, 6-2, at No.5. Wise also won in straight sets, defeating Lin, 6-3, 6-3, at No.6.

Mok and Fong both dropped their first sets before rebounding for three-set wins. Mok defeated Holmberg, 6-7, 6-2, (10-8), playing a match tiebreaker for the third set at No.2. Fong rebounded after losing the first set, 6-1, to win 1-6, 6-2, (10-8) over Paquillo at No.3. Pomona earned its only win of the match when Feliz defeated Muller, 6-3, 6-3, at No.1.

"We played our best tennis of the trip today," said Aggie head coach Bill Maze. "It's good to get a win against the defending conference champions. This was our last conference match in the CCAA so it's nice to go out a winner."

UC Davis will next be in action on Saturday when it travels to face Santa Clara. Matchtime is set for noon.
