SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - UC Davis captured all three doubles matches then earned two singles victories before rain washed out the remaining matches as the Aggies defeated San Francisco State, 5-0, in a rain-shortened California Collegiate Athletic Association women's tennis match Thursday afternoon.
With the win the Aggies improve to 7-8 on the season and move to 4-2 in CCAA play.
The Aggies opened up by taking all three doubles matches with the match of the day coming at No.2. UC Davis' duo of Jennifer Fong and Christy Battig defeated Melissa Magat and Elly Swetz, 9-7, handing the Gator pair just its second conference loss of the season.
In singles play, Fong at No.5 and Kerri Roemer at No.6 clinched the match for the Aggies. Fong posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jenny Underwood while Roemer defeated Stephanie Kan, 6-0, 6-3. The Aggies were ahead in the remaining four matches before rain interrupted play. With the team victory already clinched, the matches still on court were suspended.
"It is nice to get back into conference play," said Aggie Head Coach Bill Maze. "I think the crucial match was at No.2 doubles where Jen and Christy had a tough battle and managed to get a victory. That gave us momentum heading into singles."
UC Davis will next be in action on Friday when it faces Sacramento State in Sacramento.
