Aggies Take Doubles Point But Titans Gain 5-2 Victory

FULLERTON, Calif. - UC Davis captured two of three doubles matches but gained only one singles victory as Cal State Fullerton rallied for a 5-2 win over the Aggies in a nonconference women's tennis match Sunday morning.

With the loss the Aggies fall to 4-14 on the season.

The Aggies gained the opening doubles point as Ally Muller and Robin Guier earned an 8-2 win over Carla Rocha and Mai-Ly Tan at No.1 while Ashley Lehman and Audrey Wingo defeated Caroline Freeman and Chip Dunbar by an identical score at No.3. The Titans captured the No.2 match when Ruya Inalpulat and Gina Le defeated Amanda Wise and Kaitlin Callan, 8-4.

In singles action only Lehman was able to gain an Aggie victory as she needed three sets for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Dunbar at No.6. Muller was even-up in the third set when she was forced to retire against Inalpulat at No.1 with the score tied, 4-6, 6-0, 1-1. Yuka Otaka also went three sets, before falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to Tran at No.4.

The remaining three matches were won by the Titans in straight sets as Le defeated Wingo, 7-6, 6-2, at No.2 while Rocha won a second-set tiebreaker over Callan at No.3, 6-3, 7-6. In the remaining match, Freeman posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Wise at No.5.

The Aggies are next in action on Friday when they host Pacific at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
