DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Davis women’s tennis bumps their wins to 14 for the season after shutting out Sonoma State, 7-0, thanks to sealing both the doubles point win and six singles match wins at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on Saturday morning.
The Aggies started off the dual by sealing the doubles point after the first two finished matches of the day. The first of two wins came from partners Shirley Hall and Sara Tsukamoto after defeating Julie Rea and Jennifer Kingsley, 6-2, while the second came from tandem Lani-Rae Green and Kristina Breisacher after besting Katie Long and Hannah Highsmith, 6-1, at the No. 2 position.
UC Davis continued to outshine the Seawolves, winning all six singles matches in straight-sets. Tsukamoto gave the home team their second point with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Jennifer Kingsley at the No. 5 position, while Green came through right after with a victory of her own over Katie Long, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot. Junior Isabella von Ebbe officially clinched the team win for UC Davis with her 6-0, 6-1 match win at the No. 6 position.
Despite the 4-0 shutout, both teams agreed to play out the remainder of the unfinished singles matches; however, the Aggies continued to add to their team score as senior Kristy Jorgensen, Nikita Pradeep, and Breisacher brought the UC Davis score to seven after their singles wins over Clarissa Calling (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 1 spot, Hannah Highsmith (6-1, 6-1) at No. 4, and Jenna DeTurk (7-5, 6-0) at the No. 2 position, respectively.
The UC Davis women’s tennis team returns to action tomorrow morning as they make a quick turnaround as they make a trip down to Long Beach, Calif., to play against Big West school Long Beach State at 10 a.m.
