SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Cal Poly swept the three doubles sets and won all six singles matches for a 7-0 victory over UC Davis in a non-conference women's tennis match Saturday morning at the Mustang Courts.
With the loss the Aggies fall to 11-8 this season.
The Mustangs came out strong as they won all three doubles matches to gain the 1-0 advantage heading into singles. Chelsy Thompson and Noelle Lee opened it up with an 8-0 win over Jennifer Fong and Christy Battig at No.2. Samantha Waller and Kristen Grady then posted an 8-4 win over Ally Muller and Nancy Mok at No.1 while Carol Erickson and Sheila Lewis edged Amanda Wise and Ashley Lehman, 9-7, at No.3.
In singles play the Mustangs captured five of six matches in straight sets. The only Aggie to win a set was Muller, who dropped a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision to Waller at No.1. Thompson defeated Mok, 6-2, 6-2, at No.2 then Lewis needed a first-set tiebreaker to defeat Fong, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0. At No.4 Grady earned a 6-2, 7-5 win over Audrey Wingo and Lee won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, over Luna Tieu at No.5. Erickson had little trouble with Wise at No.6, winning 6-2, 6-0.
UC Davis will next be in action on when it competes in the Ojai Championships, Apr. 22-25 in Ojai, Calif.
