OJAI, Calif. - Freshman Robin Guier posted an easy victory but teammate Ally Muller was not as fortunate, falling in three sets, during third-round play at the 2005 Women's Independent College Championships on Friday.
Guier had little trouble in recording a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jessica Nagasako of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, in her third-round match. She now advances to Saturday's quarterfinal round, where she will face Ashley Strimple of Point Loma Nazarene.
Muller battled back from a set down to tie the match against Grand Canyon's Nikita Bhardwaj, but could not hold the momentum as Bardwaj pulled away for the 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win.
In doubles play, Muller and Guier posted a pair of victories, defeating Molly Berman and Margo Fillstein of Pomon-Pitzer, 6-0, 6-1 in the third round then followed that with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Redlands' team of Erin Hiranga and Jenna Umeno.
Play continues at the Women's Independent College Championships through Sunday.
