OJAI, Calif. - UC Davis freshman Robin Guier won two three-set matches as she advanced to Sunday's final at the 2005 Women's Independent College Championships, played Saturday at Ojai Valley Athletic Club.
Guier's day began with a 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 victory over Point Loma Nazarene's Ashley Strimple in the quarterfinal then followed that with a 7-6, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Alliant International's Lenka Durisova in the semifinals. Three of Guier's four singles victories in the tournament have come in three sets.
Later in the day, Guier posted another win over Strimple as she teammed with Ally Muller to defeat Strimple and Anita Sieczka in the doubles semifinals.
Sunday will see Guier face Grand Canyon's Nikita Bhawdwaj in the singles final. It will be a chance at some Aggie revenge as Bhadwaj won a three-set match over Muller in Friday's third round. In the doubles final, the Aggie duo will meet Katie Frick and Erika Villalobos of UC Santa Cruz.
