OJAI, Calif. - UC Davis freshman Robin Guier defeated Grand Canyon's Nikita Bhardwaj 6-1, 6-4 in the final of the Women's Independent College Championships, played Sunday at Libbey Park.
Guier won six matches on her march to the championship, needing three sets in three of those matches. Her victory over Bhardwaj in the final avenged a loss by teammate Ally Muller to Bhardwaj in the third round.
Guier and Muller also advanced to Sunday's doubles final, but fell short of a UC Davis sweep as the pair lost a 6-4, 6-2 match against UC Santa Cruz's Katie Frick and Erika Villalobos.
The tournament marked an end the UC Davis women's tennis 2005 season.
