BERKELEY, Calif. — UC Davis junior Isabella von Ebbe and sophomores Nikita Pradeep move on to the Gold Flight semifinals in the consolation draw, while sophomore Kelsie Bryant, as well as freshmen Jessica Walker and Shirley Hall are scheduled to play in the White Flight semifinals in the main draw. In doubles, duos Bryant and senior Kristy Jorgensen, as well as von Ebbe and Pradeep advance to the Blue Flight and Gold Flight Semifinal Round, respectively, to highlight the first day of the Cal Nike Fall Invitational on Friday in Berkeley, Calif.
Starting off the day with doubles play, Bryant and Jorgensen won the Round of 16 in the Blue Flight against Nevada’s Anastasia Gorvacheva and Marta Ruedas, 8-1, while in the Gold Flight, von Ebbe and Pradeep defeated Celine Gruaz and Mackenzie Worsnop of Cal Poly, 8-1, to both advance to their semifinals. Also competing in the Gold Flight doubles Round of 16 was sophomore Kristina Breisacher, who was the No. 4 seeded player, along with senior Lani-Rae Green, but their road to victory was cut short by San Francisco’s Alexa Meyer and Mya Bui, 8-6.
In the quarterfinals for the doubles White Flight play, freshmen Walker and Hall won four sets, but the quarterfinals match victory went to Santa Clara’s Caitlyn Frankel and Giannia Ong, 8-4.
For Friday’s singles plays, it was Round of 16 in the White Flight where the Aggies dominated with victory match sweeps. Bryant defeated San Francisco’s Amber DelRosario in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, Hall also won in straight-sets against Pacific’s Yuki Asami, 6-1, 6-1, and Walker finished off strong by winning the last two sets after a first set loss against Fresno State’s Abbey Watanabe, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
In consolation play for the Gold Flight singles play, Pradeep got a victory against No. 4 seed Georgia Lawson of Fresno State, while von Ebbe defeated Nevada’s Maria Tatarnikova in straight-sets, 7-6(4), 6-1.
In Round of 16 for the main draw in the Blue Flight, Breisacher put up a good fight, but was defeated by No. 4 seed Terri Fleming of UCLA, while Cal’s Olivia Hauger, the No. 1 seeded player, won the match against Green, 7-5, 6-2. In the the consolation draw’s first round, Jorgensen lost against Kate Cusick from BYU.
