BERKELEY, Calif. - Sophomore Layla Sanders won both of her matches to claim the Blue ITA Singles consolation final over Saint Mary's Hanah Liljekvist while Ellie Edles was narrowly edged in the final match of the White Singles division on Sunday at the Cal Nike Invitational.
Sanders opened the day with a win over Stephanie Skaras of Santa Clara, taking a 6-4, 7-6(6) victory to advance to the consolation finals. She took on Liljekvist and posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory to win the consolation bracket.
In the finals of the White division, Edles faced Brooke Irish of San Francisco, the division's top-seeded player, but fell 6-3, 6-4. Edles, seeded 14th in the White division, advanced past tenth-seeded Andrea Gomez Carus of Sacramento State in the semifinals on Saturday.
UC Davis continues fall play at the Saint Mary's Invitational Oct. 12-14 in Moraga.
