DAVIS, Calif. – Highlighted by Megan Heneghan and Melissa Kobayakawa's battle for a doubles title, three Aggies returned to the Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga, Calif., Sunday morning to compete in the final day of action at the Saint Mary’s Fall Invitational.
After a successful run throughout the tournament’s first two days, Heneghan and Kobayakawa finished in second place in their bracket’s doubles final after falling to Washington’s Andjela Nemcevic and Julija Lukac.
Heneghan’s busy day continued with her singles consolation semifinal match against Pacific’s Iveta Masarova; after downing her eighth-ranked opponent 7-6 (6), 1-6, 1-0 (4), the senior competed in her third match of the day against Audrey Leitz in the consolation finals.
Facing an opponent who was familiar with the facility, Leitz competes for tournament host Saint Mary’s, Heneghan dropped her last singles contest of the weekend by a score of 7-5, 6-3.
Kamila Kecki, the final Aggie competing on the day, faced Cal Poly’s Chanel Scudiero in another consolation semifinal matchup in a bracket that differed from her teammate. Unfortunately for Kecki, Scudiero ended that matchup with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory to advance to the consolation final.
UC Davis will complete its fall tournament schedule at the ITA Northwest Regionals from Stanford, Calif. Action from this five-day event will start on Friday, Oct. 18, from the Taube Family Tennis Center located on the campus of Stanford University.
