Freshmen Robin Guier and Cindy Kitch each captured opening round wins at the Friday at the Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championships at Taube Tennis Stadium.
Guier posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over San Jose State's Elke Harms in Friday's first round before falling to Fresno State's Kathrin Winterhalter in the second round. Kitch also was an opening round winner, defeating Gonzaga's Sirrah Williams 7-5, 6-3 before falling to No.9 Sasha Podkolzina 6-0, 6-0 in the second round.
In all, nine Aggies competed in the singles draw with Guier and Kitch the only two to make it past the first round.
In doubles play, the duo of Ally Muller and Guier earned an 8-2 win over San Francisco's Maile Smith and Michelle Duncan in Friday's first round. The pair then fell to the No.2 seeds, Dea Simantri and Dinka Hadzic of Washington, 8-6.
Play continues at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Women's Regional Championship through Monday.
