DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Davis women’s tennis team bumps their victory steak to 3-0 after getting a 5-2 match victory over Santa Clara’s team at the Marya Welch Tennis Center last Saturday. Next up, the Aggies head to La Jolla, Calif., for a two-match weekend going up against San Diego State on Saturday (Feb. 3), and then UC San Diego the following day (Feb. 4).

To recap on the action that took place at the women’s tennis home-opener match, the Aggies started off the day in getting the doubles point early on, thanks to partners Isabella von Ebbe and Nikita Pradeep, and then tandem Lani-Rae Green and Kristina Breisacher. Santa Clara scored one team point during singles after Sara Tsukamoto’s straight-set match win over Delaney Nothaft; however, the Aggies responded with two more singles wins from Pradeep and von Ebbe to seal the team win over the Sunnyvale, Calif., university.

San Diego State’s women’s tennis team also carries a 3-0 overall record as of time of release; however, San Diego State had a match against No. 14 Cal this Thursday afternoon (Feb. 1). Looking at the most recent published results, the Aztecs secured a win over both UC San Diego, 5-2, and UC Irvine, 7-0, last weekend.

Last time the Aztecs and the Aggies met on the courts was around this same time last season, where the San Diego, Calif., university fought for their 4-3 home match victory over UC Davis at the Aztec Tennis Center.

As for the UC San Diego women’s tennis team, who is currently ranked ninth in the first NCAA Division II national poll, opens its regular season on Feb. 3 at Claremont-Mudd Scripps. When the Aggies and the Tritons last played each other back in the 2015-2016 season, UC Davis secured a 7-2 team victory over them after getting the early lead in doubles, followed by getting five out of six single match wins.
