DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomore Nikita Pradeep earned her first Big West Conference Athlete of the Week award for the 2018 season during the competition week of February 12-18, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
The Sugar Land, Texas, native went 2-0 in singles play over span of three matches to help UC Davis upset last year's regular season Big West Champions Hawai'i, as well as score a point for the Aggies in the matchup against Saint Mary's before falling to them at a 5-2 final score. The two wins earned this weekend bumped the Clements High School alumna's record to an impressive 8-0 for the dual season.
The first of two singles wins came from her straight-set win over the Rainbow Wahine's Klara Pribylova at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-1, to lead the Aggies to a 4-2 victory, while the second came from her three-set victory over Saint Mary's Clementine Clement, 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 at the No. 3 spot.
In the UC Davis match win over San Francisco's team, Pradeep's singles match went unfinished; however, she still contributed to the 4-1 victory by scoring a 6-2 doubles win over the Dons at the No. 3 position with partner Sara Tsukamoto.
The UC Davis women's tennis squad returns to action this weekend as they head down to Santa Barbara, Calif., to take on fellow conference team UC Santa Barbara on their courts.
