DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 2 seeded UC Davis women's tennis team heads to the Big West Conference Championships this weekend, facing No. 7 Pacific in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 8 a.m. at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The Aggies closed out the season winning four straight matches and five straight conference matches, surging into the No. 2 seed with a 6-2 record, the highest league finish in program history. UC Davis finished the year with a .500 overall record at 11-11.
The Aggies started the season with a competitive nonconference schedule, facing nine ranked opponents in the first 13 matches. UC Davis turned the corner after facing Long Beach State on the road, posting a 7-2 record in the last nine matches.
Kelly Chui has a team-best 15-7 dual match record at the No. 3 position. Lauren Curry has also reached double digit wins in singles action, tallying a 14-6 mark at the No. 4 spot.
Pacific finished the regular season with a 5-14 overall record and a 2-6 mark in Big West play. After downing Cal State Fullerton in the final match of the season, the Tigers had lost 10 straight matches. The Aggies took a win at Pacific recently on Apr. 19, cruising to 1 5-2 win in a rescheduled match.
The winner of Friday's match between UC Davis and Pacific will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, Apr. 28 at 8 a.m. and face the winner of No. 3 UC Irvine/No. 6 Cal State Northridge.
