DAVIS, Calif. – In addition to preparing for the start of the 2013-14 academic year this week, members of UC Davis women’s tennis have also been busy practicing for the Cal Nike Invitational, their first event of the fall season.
The three-day event will take place at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts, located at UC Berkeley, from Sept. 27-29. Starting with one round of doubles, followed by two rounds of singles, action will start at 8 a.m. Friday.
Saturday’s schedule will feature one singles and two doubles rounds, with the doubles finals, singles semifinals and event championship set for Sunday.
Women’s tennis fans can access a live stream of action taking place on all six courts at the Hellman Tennis Complex at this website. Unfortunately, matches taking place at the Channing Tennis Courts will not be streamed.

This tournament is the first of three fall women’s tennis events; the Aggies will travel to Moraga, Calif., to participate in the Saint Mary’s Invitational (Oct. 11-13), before traveling to Stanford the following week compete at the ITA Northwest Regionals.
One of 16 teams competing this weekend, UC Davis will compete against a field of student-athletes comprised of host Cal, Armstrong Atlantic State, BYU, Fresno State, Marquette, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's, UC Santa Barbara, USC and UW-Milwaukee.
Fifteen nationally ranked players will compete this weekend, a group that includes an event-high six from USC. Ranked Trojans include: No. 1 Sabrina Santamaria, No. 17 Zoe Scandalis, No. 19 Brynn Boren, No. 56 Gabriella DeSimone, No. 86 Kaitlyn Christian and No. 91 Giuliana Olmos.
UC Davis senior Megan Heneghan, one of a slew of ranked players not from Southern California, will also take the court to compete in her inaugural match of the season against a strong field that boasts an additional eight ranked student-athletes. Other featured players at this weekend’s tournament include: No. 4 Zsofi Susanyi (California), No. 5 Anett Schutting (California), No. 20 Katie Le (Santa Clara), No. 22 Jenny Jullien (Saint Mary’s), No. 23 Klara Fabikova (California), No. 44 Lynn Chi (California), No. 57 Andrea Ka (San Francisco), and No. 119 Michelle Okhremchuk (Nevada).
UC Davis will experience a brief hiatus before returning to action in its next fall tournament.
