DAVIS, Calif. – After its 12-day break following the conclusion of its schedule at the Cal Invitational, UC Davis women’s tennis will make the brief trek to Moraga to compete in this year’s Saint Mary’s Fall Invitational.
The second of three tournaments scattered throughout the Aggies’ fall schedule, UC Davis will face some of the top teams in the west all weekend long at the Korth Tennis Complex located at Saint Mary’s College.
Other teams in action include Stanford, last year’s NCAA champion, Cal, Cal Poly, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, Portland, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Washington.
“With the start of school taking place right before the Cal Invitational, I wanted to give those two a break from tennis that weekend to help with their transition to UC Davis,” said head coach Bill Maze.
During the team’s tenure in Berkeley, Megan Heneghan, Tiffany Pham and Melissa Kobayakawa each earned singles victories in the event’s inaugural day. UC Davis also saw Claire Jaramishian/Pham, Layla Sanders/Nicole Koehly and Heneghan/Kobayakawa all experience doubles success in the second day of action the Cal Invite, results the team hopes to replicate at the fall invite.
Due to the amount of entries received, Friday’s slate will feature one singles and two doubles rounds; action will flip the following day with two singles and one doubles round schedule for Saturday.
Championship matches will take place Sunday morning and afternoon.
