DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis program has signed three future Aggies to National Letters of Intent, announced head coach Bill Maze. The commitments include Kelly Chui, Nicole Koehly and Megan Heneghan. Chui is from Milpitas, Calif., and attends Saint Francis High School. Koehly is from Santa Ana, Calif., and attends El Modena High School. Heneghan is from Tustin, Calif., and attends Beckman High School.
Chui is a two-time West Catholic Athletic League Player of the Year while winning the WCAL singles championship. She went undefeated as a senior while helping her team to a second-place finish in the league. She has twice received her school's Outstanding Player Award. Chui went 35-12 in singles and 24-1 in doubles as part of the USTA Girls' 18. She finished 2008 ranked No. 1 in both categories in Northern California.
Koehly has been named most valuable player of the Century League for three straight years and has been a First-Team All-Century selection since her freshman season. She has twice received El Modena's "Vanguard All-Sport MVP" award. Koehly has twice helped lead her team to Century League championships.
Heneghan capped off her high school career with a 52-0 record as a senior after posting a 58-0 mark as a junior. Her four-year high school record is a staggering 203-5. Heneghan is a three-time Pacific Coast League Player Most Valuable Player and four-time team MVP.
"We are excited and fortunate to receive commitments from Kelly, Nicole and Megan. They are just the type of student-athletes we hope for - smart, talented and competitive," said Maze. "Kelly has a great work ethic and a very solid all-around game. She gives us the double whammy - just as strong in doubles as she is in singles. Nicole comes to us from the very competitive southern California section. Her forehand and serve are major weapons that give her the ability to beat highly-ranked opponents. Megan has been near the top in the southern California rankings all through juniors. She is a very tough competitor who has exceptional ground strokes and a never say die attitude. We are looking forward to their arrival in the fall of 2010."
UC Davis recently concluded its fall schedule and will begin spring play Jan. 22 at Arizona.
