DAVIS, Calif. - Desiree Stone is currently ranked No. 27 in the latest Fila/ITA rankings for the Northwest Region. The sophomore is the lone Aggie ranked among the Top-30 singles in the region. Stone posted a 3-2 record in the fall, which included matches against three players also appearing in the rankings.
Stone began the fall with a loss to No. 24 Jennifer Yen of Stanford at the Saint Mary's Invitational before stringing together three straight wins. Among those was a three-set victory over SMC's Alex Poorta, who is ranked one spot below Stone at No. 28, on Oct. 19 at the ITA Northwest Championships. Stone concluded her fall play with a loss to No. 6 Cristina Visico of Cal.
Last year as a freshman, Stone led the Aggies with a combined 31 singles and doubles victories. She finished the year 31-25.
UC Davis is in its first official year as a member of Division I and the Big West Conference. The Aggies begin their spring season Jan. 19 at Arizona State.
