Four-year Aggie veteran Rachel Keener enters her first year as a member of the volleyball staff, serving as a student assistant for head coach Steve Walker.
Keener played for UC Davis from 2003 to 2006, finishing her career with 663 kills and 157 blocks. Although her career-high kills total was 17 against Utah State, she had perhaps her best match against Cal State Northridge. In the Aggies' four-game win over the Matadors, Keener posted eight kills and 11 digs -- in Game 4 alone.
The Castro Valley, Calif. native also stands as one of the program's finest scholar-athletes. Keener earned Div. I Independent All-Academic honors as a senior in 2006 while holding a 3.79 GPA in exercise biology. The previous spring, she was selected as one of two Aggies to represent women's volleyball when the program was awarded the Marya Welch Team GPA Award.
Keener played high school volleyball for Castro Valley High School, where she graduated in 2003. She also played club ball for Golden Bear VBC, helping her team win the gold medal at the 2001 Junior Olympics and a No. 2 national rank in 2003.
