TURLOCK, Calif. --- - Kelly Gaudino posted a team-high 19 kills and 10 digs to lead UC Davis past Massachusetts-Lowell, 30-13, 30-24, 34-32, in the Aggies' second match of action at the Verducci Warrior Volleyball Classic at Cal St. Stanislaus Friday.
UC Davis also won its early Friday contest - and thus its season-opener - sweeping New York University, 30-26, 30-21, 30-22. The Aggies open its 2002 season with a 2-0 record.
Gaudino's 19 kills were blemished by just two hitting errors in 36 attempts for a .472 hitting percentage. Offensively, she teamed with sophomore Kim Vincent, who hit 13-0-22 (.591) and had 12 digs. As a team, the Aggies hit .500 in the first game, .452 in the second game in the win over UML.
In the NYU match, Gaudino led UC Davis with nine digs while Cassandra Prell and Elizabeth Brown added eight each. Brown had an errorless day in the tournament, hitting a combined 12 kills on 22 attempts in six games. Mary McClelland recorded 13 digs in the win over the Violets.
The Aggies close their action in the Verducci Classic Saturday with a 9 a.m. match against Pacific Region opponent Humboldt State.
