TURLOCK, Calif. - Junior outside hitter Kelly Gaudino postd 16 kills while teammate Cassandra Prell recorded a career-best eight blocks to lead UC Davis to a 17-30, 30-28, 19-30, 30-24, 15-7 win over Humboldt State during the second day of action at the Verducci Warrior Volleyball Classic at Cal St. Stanislaus Saturday.

The Aggies remain undefeated at 3-0. It marks the second straight year in which UC Davis began the season with an unbeaten performance at a tournament.

Humboldt State had 15 kills on 33 attempts for a .303 hitting percentage in its victorious Game 1, then unloaded for 17 kills and just four errors on 32 swings for a .406 average in Game 3, winning each frame with relative ease. However, UC Davis captured Games 2 and 4 before taking control in the decisive fifth game.

Elizabeth Brown and Ellen Fitzpatrick provided support at the net with three blocks each. Libero Mary McClelland led the Aggie floor defense with 15 digs. Fitzpatrick also had 11 digs for the match. Setter Marritt Cafarchia enjoyed an uncharacteristically offensive match, contributing 8-1-13 hitting to go with her team-leading 34 assists.

Humboldt State found offensive punch from Jessica Murray and Rachael Halverson, who combined for 33 kills and a .373 hitting percentage.

UC Davis faces Central Washington at 3 p.m. on September 2.
