Meghan Evoy posted 16 kills and Kristy Carstensen added 14 to lead Western
Washington to a 30-19, 30-18, 30-19 sweep over UC Davis in the Aggies' second
Saturday match of the Seattle Pacific/Comfort Suites Classic women's volleyball
tournament at the Royal Brougham Pavilion.
The sixth-ranked Vikings improve to 6-1 on the year. The Aggies drop
to 4-2 overall, having defeated Seattle University in four games in the
day's earlier action.
Evoy committed just one hitting error in the match to record a .429 hitting
average. She also had four block assists. Carstensen had just two errors
on 32 swings for a .375 average. As a team, WWU hit .302 in Game 2 and .340
in Game 3, compiling 38 kills against just six errors in that stretch.
Kim Vincent and Kelly Gaudino led UC Davis offensively with six kills.
Libero Mary McClelland posted 13 digs on floor defense while Gaudino, Vincent
and freshman defensive specialist Christina Ng each had 11. The Aggies managed
to hit just .078 for the match.
UC Davis kicks off its California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule
with road matches at Cal St. San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona on September
12 and 13, respectively.
