DAVIS, Calif. - Junior libero Malia Bolko recorded a match-high 23 digs while junior outside hitter Brianna Karsseboom added another 12, but UC Davis was marred by offensive woes in falling in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17, 25-22, to Santa Clara in the final match of the UC Davis Invitational women's volleyball tournament Saturday. The Aggies even their record to 5-5 for the year. Bolko was subsequently named to the all-tournament squad, thanks to her 66 total digs in the 12 sets. She had nine in the first set, seven in the second, then seven more in the third to highlight UC Davis in its Saturday loss to SCU. The Aggies struggled offensively in each of the first two sets, committing 10 attacking errors and hitting .000 in the opener, then suffering through nine more offensive miscues and a minus-.029 average in the second. Santa Clara had 11 blocks in those first two sets, including seven from sophomore Taylor Odom. UC Davis settled in on the attacking game in the third set, lowering its overall errors to four and improving to .205. Karsseboom totaled four kills while freshman Mahalia White hit 3-for-5. Sophomore Anna Donald rotated into the 6-2 system at opposite, putting down three kills and teaming with freshman Alexa Rockas on a block. However, the Aggies gave up a short run that allowed the Broncos to pull ahead by a 13-10 margin, then largely chased the game for the reminder. A Rockas solo stuff followed by an SCU unforced error pulled the Aggies to within a 23-22 margin. But Jensen Cunningham's kill thwarted the comeback, and a double put the 25th point on the board to finish the Bronco sweep. UC Davis has a short week of practice before returning to action at the UT Arlington Invitational on Thursday and Friday. TOURNAMENT STANDINGS
