PORTLAND, Ore. - Seniors Niki Lambert and Lisa Thomas combined for 27 kills and a .489 hitting average to lead Portland State to a five-game, 27-30, 30-28, 28-30, 30-24, 15-9 win over UC Davis in the fourth match of the Nike Portland Invitational women's volleyball tournament at the Chiles Center Friday.

The Aggies, victims of a third straight five-game loss, drop to 1-9 on the year. The Vikings, who beat host University of Portland in five on Thursday night, improve to 5-4.

Senior outside hitter Kate Wilton led UC Davis with 19 kills against just three errors on offense. Libero Mary McClelland recorded 28 digs, while setter Katelyn Astruc and middle blocker Kim Vincent each added 10 kills. Vincent also tallied five block assists at the net.

UC Davis hit .325 as a team in its Game 1 victory, erasing an early 13-9 deficit. Wilton knocked down four kills on six errorless attempts with McClelland backing her up in with eight digs in the frame.

The second game was decidedly less decisive, featuring 14 ties. The Aggies crept ahead by as much as 17-13, but PSU's Sarah Sirianni responded to her team's timeout by serving up eight straight points, giving her team a short-lived lead. Wilton hit five kills with no errors in the game, with her fifth giving UC Davis a 25-24 lead. However, kills by Vikings Lambert, Kaylene Munson and Jessica Brodie helped take the lead for good, allowing PSU to tie the match at 1-1.

Offense from Astruc and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Keener led the Aggies in Game 3. Keener had three kills in a 6-0 run to start the game, and Astruc hit 6-0-7 as UC Davis claimed a 30-28 win and the edge in games. Portland State hit .375 in the third, but one of the few attack errors - a block by Aggies Mary Gaber and Jenny Pierce - set up game point for UC Davis.

The Aggies committed five hitting errors in the early going of Game 4, allowing the Vikings to establish a 10-4 lead, but then benefitted by opposing errors to scrape back to a 14-13 advantage. Brodie had three kills down the stretch to allow PSU to tie the match at 2-2.

Lambert put down four kills on six swings in Game 5, helping her team hit .389. UC Davis never led again after a brief 2-0 start. Brodie served up four straight points early in the frame, and Munson shut the door for the Vikings.

Brodie finished the match with totals of 21 digs and 21 kills to lead her team in both categories.

UC Davis will face the host Pilots at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
