PORTLAND, Ore. - Senior middle blocker Michelle Oakland posted a match-high 17 kills, including eight in the final game, to lead the University of Portland to a 30-26, 32-30, 30-26 sweep of UC Davis in the final day of action of the Nike Portland Invitational at the Chiles Center Saturday.

The Aggies drop to 1-10 for the year. The tournament host Pilots improve to 7-3 overall.

Mary McClelland led UC Davis with 28 digs, her fifth straight outing with at least 25. Outside hitter Kate Wilton led the Aggies with 14 kills against just one error, while sophomore Nicole Read came off the bench to record 10 kills. Sophomore middle Katie Wilson also provided a Game 3 spark, hitting a perfect 5-for-5 down the final stretch of the match.

Oakland led Portland with a .484 hitting average, one of five Pilots boasting a .300 rate or better. Junior Monique Kettler hit 8-2-18 to go with four solo blocks. Murphy McClenahan led UP with 21 digs.

The Pilots led most of Game 1 until two kills by opposite Mary Gaber helped UC Davis take a 23-21 lead. However, Oakland had two kills and one of her three solo blocks during a 4-0 Portland run to help finish the game.

UC Davis held a 29-27 game-point opportunity in the second frame after Portland's attack error and setting violation swung a 27-27 tie to the Aggie advantage. Freshman Nicole Thometz cut the margin to 29-28, then added another kill two points later to give the Pilots a 30-29 game point. Wilton re-tied the game at 30-30, but Sara Vrecruyssen with a side-out kill of her own to go ahead, 31-30. Portland junior Liz Lord served up the winning point and the Aggies fell behind by two games.

Portland took an early 9-6 lead in Game 3, managing to keep UC Davis at an arm's length until back-to-back kills by Read tied the game at 17-17. Aggie opposite Jill McPheeters' kill later gave her a team a brief 19-18 lead, but it would be the last. Portland posted three team blocks in a 4-1 stretch, taking the lead for good. Oakland scored kills on the 28th and 30th points of the third game, completing the sweep for the Pilots.
