The Aggies improve to 10-7 overall and even their conference mark at 5-5. The Warriors remain winless, dropping to 0-15 overall and 0-10 in CCAA play.

Read recorded 13 kills against four errors in 22 attempts on offense, while adding five total blocks on net defense and tallying a pair of service aces. Fellow freshman middle Rachel Keener hit 7-1-10 for a .600 hitting average. She also had two aces and two blocks. Juniors Marritt Cafarchia and Kate Wilton each had three aces for the Aggies.

Stanislaus junior Jackie Coudert posted a double-double, posting 12 kills and 11 digs. Setter Eileen Moore hit .385 on offense to go with 35 assists. She and Lori Roos combined for four stuffs in the Game 1 victory, just the sixth game won by CSUS this year.

"We're thrilled that we won. We've won more conference matches than we did all last year," said Stephanie Hawbecker. "I don't want to berate anybody, but we need a higher level of performance to make a breakthrough in this conference. [Assistant coach] Ping [Chou] and I won't rest until it happens."

UC Davis took an 11-11 tie to a 16-11 lead in that first game, helped by a pair of Wilton aces. But Stanislaus crawled back to a 19-18 deficit then scored four straight points behind the serving of Janee Richards. The Warriors' junior defensive specialist had two aces and forced a free-ball that Moore knocked down for an easy kill. The Aggies fought back to 27-26 late in Game 1 on a kill by Kelly Gaudino, but Stanislaus scored three straight points to finish the frame and take a 1-0 lead.

The Aggies came back strong in the second game, building a 16-5 lead with the help of six Warrior hitting errors. UC Davis hit .393 in Game 2, including four kills and a block assist by junior outside hitter Kim Vincent. Keener also hit 3-for-3 with an ace in that game.

The Aggies broke away from an 18-18 tie midway through Game 3, employing a 6-1 run to go ahead by a 24-19 margin. Read and Cafarchia both had aces after that point to build the lead to 29-21, but the Warriors fought off four game points. Finally, Gaudino put down her sixth Game 3 for the game-winner.

UC Davis led for nearly the entirety of Game 4, although Stanislaus managed to cut the lead to as low as 23-22 late in the game. Wilton and Read each had a pair of kills down the final stretch to finish the match. As a team, the Aggies hit .306 in the clinching game.
