LA JOLLA, Calif. --- Junior outside hitter Stacy Dunsmore hit .333 and posted five service aces to lead top-ranked UC San Diego to an efficient 30-14, 30-27, 30-22 sweep over UC Davis in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's volleyball match at the RIMAC Arena Friday.

The Aggies fall to 14-12 overall and 9-10 in CCAA play. The Tritons, ranked No. 1 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top 25, improve to 22-4 on the season and 16-3 in conference. They also stay undefeated at home with a 10-0 ledger.

Junior Kim Vincent came off the bench to record a match-high 15 kills for the Aggies. She also committed just four errors on 33 swings for a .333 hitting average. Senior outside hitter Kelly Gaudino and freshman middle blocker Rachel Keener each added 10 kills for UC Davis. Freshman Ingrid Nuss made her first career start, supplying 12 digs. Libero Mary McClelland posted a team-best 15 digs.

No UCSD players had more than nine digs but four players hit .333 or higher for the match. Junior middle Kendra Canape had eight kills against just two errors for a .462 hitting average, while Katie Hogan's 8-2-15 offensive chart resulted in a .400 clip. The Tritons hit .321 for the match, including .385 in Game 3. Senior Lauren Mills led UCSD defensively, recording 16 digs. Setter Teresa Ohta added 12 digs and Canape contributed another 10.

UC Davis committed nine errors on 39 swings for a .000 hitting average in the Game 1 loss. The Aggies settled down to a respectable .213 in Game 2, but the Tritons stayed ahead to go up 2-0 in games. UCSD finished the sweep with its strong offense in Game 3.


 

 

The Aggies continue its CCAA road action with a match at Grand Canyon Saturday.
