DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis junior libero Malia Bolko captured her first Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the weekend ending September 10, the league office announced Monday afternoon. This is her first such award of 2017, and the third of her career.A managerial economics student from Benicia, California, and St. Patrick/St. Vincent High School, Bolko posted 20 or more digs in four straight matches during the previous week. She totaled 93 in 17 sets for a 5.47 average to lead the Aggies defensively. Additionally, Bolko became just the ninth player in school history to collect her 1,000th career dig. She enters the upcoming weekend with 1,050. After a season-high 27 in Tuesday’s home opener with Sacramento State, Bolko recorded digs totals of 20, 23 and 23 in UC Davis Invitational matches against Portland State, Boise State and Santa Clara, earning a spot on the all-tournament team. The Aggies enjoyed a five-set match against BSU as part of that tournament run. Bolko previously won Big West Conference weekly honors on October 5 and November 9 of her freshman season.
