Oct. 9, 2017

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis women’s volleyball player Mahalia White captured Big West Conference Freshman of the Week honors for the period ending October 8, it was announced by the league office on Monday. This is the first such award for an Aggie in 2017, and the first overall since Lauren Matias claimed it almost exactly one year ago.

The organizational studies major from Canoga Park, California, totaled 43 kills (4.78 kps), a .341 hitting average, 11 digs, three aces and six blocks in the Aggies’ two home conference matches last week. She tied her then-career best of 20 kills in Thursday’s five-set marathon against CSUN, then set a new personal benchmark with 23 kills in Saturday’s historic four-set win over Long Beach State. White also hit .415 and blocked four shots in Thursday’s loss to the Matadors.

UC Irvine’s Harlee Kekauoha won the Big West’s overall Player of the Week award, while Hawaii senior Emily Maglio snared Defensive Player of the Week accolades for her 20-block weekend.

UC Davis hits the road for conference matches at UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton this Friday and Saturday.
