TO RECAP: UC Davis (11-9, 3-4) defeated Cal Poly in four then lost to UC Santa Barbara in a five-set heartbreaker, marking the first time the Aggies have ever split the Central Coast road trip... Sophomore OH Kaylin Squyres recorded 1, 6 kills and 13 digs in the win over the Mustangs on Friday... Senior OPP Devon Damelio delivered 18 kills, 17 digs and 7 blocks while junior MB Katie Quinn tied her career best of 15 kills, hit .444 and posted 9 blocks in the 2:15 marathon on Saturday... The UCSB match also provided the first substantial glimpse of freshman Allie Wegener as an OH... The St. Francis HS alumna, who has seen playing time in the back row and on the service line all year, set personal bests in kills (8) and attempts (32).

While the weekend's action continued the uptick in Damelio's production during Big West play, it also captured the recent boost in Quinn's game... Although a solid contributor in the preseason - she won all-tournament honors at Nevada in September - the San Anselmo junior has raised her hitting average from .254 in the 13 non-conference matches to .336 in Big West action... She also has averaged 1.12 blocks per set in conference matches... The 14 stuffs in nine sets over the weekend bumped her into 3rd among Big West leaders... Senior setter Jenny Woolway has also elevated her numbers in two areas: digs and aces... She averaged "only" 2.35 digs per set and served up one ace in the 13 preseason dates, but has jumped to 3.53 digs per set and five aces in the nine Big West outings.

Saturday's loss marks the sixth time UC Davis has lost a five-set match this season... Three of those setbacks have come against teams that currently rank among the top fifth in this week's NCAA RPI: Illinois State (62nd, Sept. 7), Cal State Northridge (55th, Sept. 28), UC Santa Barbara (63rd, Oct. 19)... On the positive side, the Aggies also have a four-set win over California (29th, Sept. 19) on the books.

MILESTONE WATCH: Damelio's 26 kills over the weekend raises her career total to 929... She needs three to pass Sheri Ladrech (1989-92) for ninth in school history, 33 to move ahead of Nicole Read (2003-06) for eighth... And with the win at Cal Poly, head coach Jamie Holmes now needs only three more victories to reach her 100th at the UC Davis helm.

STAT RANKINGS: Junior MB Victoria Lee dipped very slightly to a .413 hitting average, posting 19-4-39 (.385) stats last weekend... She remains the only player in the Big West above .400... Quinn moved up four spots to No. 3 among the blocks leaders at 1.09 although UCSB's Phoebe Grunt and UC Irvine's Arielle Manz are only a hundredth behind... Quinn also entered the top 10 in hitting percentage (.285)... Woolway held at 5th in assists (9.96), Squyres slipped to 7th in kills (3.05), junior Megan Lancaster fell to 8th in digs (3.40)... Senior Lindsay Dowd dropped a spot to 6th in aces (0.30) although her serving skills proved critical in the Aggies' win at Cal Poly on Friday.

UP NEXT: The Aggies host No. 8 Hawai'i in what is arguably the biggest home match of the year from a promotional standpoint... Both the Aggie Pack and Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh will attend... Additionally, UC Davis will host its annual "Dig Pink" match in support of breast cancer awareness and research... The first arriving students will receive a pink cinch bag courtesy of the West Village Apartments... Fans outside the area may tune into the match via KKEA The Fans Voice (Hawai'i broadcast) or Stretch Internet (UC Davis broadcast)... Links are listed above.

HAWAI'I (16-2, 5-1) took a break from official competition after suffering a 3-2 upset against UC Santa Barbara the previous weekend... Ranked 8th in AVCA coaches' poll and 9th in the NCAA RPI, the Rainbow Wahine own one of No. 1 Texas' two losses, plus victories against the likes of Northwestern, Arizona and Creighton this year... Two-time All-American and reigning Big West Conference Player of the Year Emily Hartong leads the conference at 4.53 kills per set... Senior Ali Longo ranks 2nd in the Big West in digs (4.00), senior Mita Uiato is 2nd in assists (10.77), while junior MH Kalei Adolpho is Lee's closest competitor in hitting average (.387)

"I'm really looking forward to this weekend. It was nice to give our team a day off on Monday so we can get back to work today. I know our team loves to compete against teams that are well-recognized nationally."

"Our outside hitting continues to be a revolving door. Allie Wegener came in against Santa Barbara and played the position. She got the most touches when it came to blocking. Really, she was bringing fire. It was like the old Kayla Varney days where you actually someone bringing fire to the game. It was definitely refreshing to see."

"Katie Quinn's slides were unstoppable. It definitely put a smile across my face. She is a workhorse. She does everything right. She wants the ball. She'll come out of the game and complain about not getting enough sets. That's what you want, because she's working for it. Quinner is an impressive kid."
