DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis women’s volleyball player Mahalia White snared her third Big West Conference Freshman of the Week award, the league office announced on Monday. The organizational studies major from Canoga Park previously won the honor on October 9 and October 16.White posted a career-high 27 kills and a .447 attack average in Friday’s four-set win against Long Beach State, then followed with 17 kills and .280 hitting in Saturday’s sweep at CSUN. Both matches were televised on ESPN3. For the weekend, White averaged 5.86 kills per set. Her 4.28 rate in 10 conference matches puts her third in the Big West behind only UC Santa Barbara’s Lindsey Ruddins (5.97) and CSUN’s Aeryn Owens (4.56). Cal Poly’s Taylor Nelson and Katherine Brouker earned the overall Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week awards for Oct. 23-29. Nelson averaged 13.38 assists per frame while Brouker totaled 40 digs as the No. 23 Mustangs claimed key conference wins over UC Irvine and Hawai’i.
