White earns fifth Freshman of the Week award

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis women’s volleyball player Mahalia White captured Big West Conference Freshman of the Week honors for the period ending November 12, the league office announced Monday afternoon. This is the fifth such award and the third straight for the organizational studies major from Canoga Park.


White totaled 33 kills in a pair of conference road matches at Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara, leading the Aggies in that category in each contest. She notched 11 kills with two digs and two blocks against the Mustangs on Friday, then followed that with 22 kills and a .385 average versus the Gauchos on Saturday. She also added another three stuffs at UCSB.


White now has 365 kills for the year, putting her six away from breaking Allison Whitson’s UC Davis freshman record, set in 2009.


The alumna of Chatsworth Charter High and Supernova All-Stars previously won Freshman of the Week accolades on October 9, October 16, October 30 and November 6. UCSB sophomore Lindsay Ruddins captured overall Player of the Week honors while Long Beach State senior Rachel Nieto picked up Defensive Player of the Week acclaim.


UC Davis hosts Hawai’i for its Senior Night home finale and Big West finale on Thursday night. Match time is 7 p.m. at the Pavilion.
