DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis women's volleyball signed prospective student-athlete Josephine "Josie" Ough to a National Letter of Intent during the November signing period, head coach Dan Conners announced. Ough is a senior at El Cerrito High School who will enroll at the university in the fall of 2018.

"Josie is 6-foot-6 but moves around really well for her size," said Conners. "She will be someone who can elevate our program to compete for Big West Conference championships. I'm very excited to have her committed to UC Davis.

"She moves well so she'll be able to get to each sideline and block. She gets way over the net, so she'll take away a lot of court from the opponents. Opponents will have to find a way to stop her size. Offensively, they'll have to figure out how to slow down someone who can hit over them."

At that height, Ough will become the tallest player in Aggie history, surpassing current middle blocker Jackie Graves. Ough earned All-Tri-County Athletic League distinction in each of her first three years for the Gauchos, helping her team post a 10-0 league record as a sophomore. This season, ECHS went 17-11 overall and qualified for the North Coast Section tournment. She played her club ball for Absolute VBC, earning a spot on PrepVolleyball.com's list of Top 150 "Senior Aces."

UC Davis hosts Hawai'i for its 2017 home finale on Thursday. The Aggies enter the upcoming weekend with a 16-12 overall record and 8-7 mark in the Big West.
