STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Keelia Houston and sophomores Ariel Arcidiacono and Allyson Hansen each scored two goals to help 17th-ranked UC Davis pull away from a close first-half battle to a 9-5 win over No. 16 Michigan in the seventh-place game of the Stanford Invitational women's water polo tournament at Avery Aquatic Center Sunday.

The win over the Wolverines followed a 9-8 setback to No. 6 Hawai'i in a morning matchup to close out bracket play. Houston led the Aggies with a hat trick in that contest, giving her a team-leading five scores for the day.

UC Davis moves to 2-4 for the year.

The Aggies and Wolverines traded goals for the first 15 minutes of play before Houston's goal with 46 seconds left in the second half put UC Davis up by a 4-3 advantage heading to the break. Hansen scored two goals during a 4-1 Aggie run that resulted in a 9-4 margin early in the fourth quarter. Houston scored on a power play and Arcidiacono added a natural goal during that stretch. Erin Schlueter scored at the 6:26 mark in the fourth to set the board at 6:26.

UC Davis held off Michigan to just one even-strength goal by Kelsey Nolan the rest of the way, successfully defending against two Wolverine 6-on-5 chances.

In Sunday's morning contest, Houston scored three goals while Arcidiacono added two more to help UC Davis battle back from an early deficit to a one-goal loss to the No. 6 Wahine.

Hawai'i opened the contest with four unanswered goals in the first four minutes before Arcidiacono converted 6-on-5 opportunities at the 2:23 mark then again with 23 seconds left. The Aggies trailed by a 6-2 margin through the first quarter, then by 7-4 at halftime.

Houston, who scored two goals in that second frame, completed her hat trick to close out a 3-0 UC Davis finish. Hansen and Katrina Husted also had goals in the final flourish that nearly erased the Wahine's 9-5 lead with 86 seconds remaining.

The Aggies return to action at the Triton Invitational on February 8-9. They open the tourney with yet another Big West Conference leaguemate at 9:50 a.m. on Saturday.
