STANFORD, Calif. - Finishing a weekend full of Top 20 competition, 12th-ranked UC Davis lost to No. 1 Stanford and No. 11 Hawai'i by scores of 11-2 and 14-7, respectively, finishing sixth at the Stanford Invitational women's water polo tournament Sunday.

The Aggies slip to 1-4 for the year, having faced four straight Top 20 teams in the past three days.

UC Davis was held scoreless through three quarters against the host and two-time defending national champions in Sunday's opener. Sophomore Paige Oreglia and freshman Hailey Wright each had one goal for the Aggies, who trailed just 1-0 through the first quarter but 6-0 at the half.

Senior Jessica Dunn led UC Davis with a hat trick in the nightcap against the Wahine, while Erin Schlueter, Oreglia, Hannah Curran and Carmen Eggert each tallied one score. Curran scored on a 6-on-5 goal midway through the first quarter then Schlueter hit a natural to tie the contest at 2-2. After Monika Eggens restored the Hawai'i edge to 3-2 with just under the two-minute mark, Eggert made quick work on a power play to equalize yet again.

However, UH scored five unanswered to take the lead for good. Eggens netted a goal on the next possession after Eggert's score to give the Wahine a 4-3 lead at the end of the opening frame. Paula Chillida Esforzado hit her second of five total goals in a 3-0 second quarter, giving UH a 7-3 halftime edge. Then Danielle Lewis tacked on her team's eighth goal to open the third before Dunn ended the Aggie scoring drought with a successfull penalty shot with 6:40 to go, cutting the deficit to 8-4.

UC Davis never approached any closer than the four-goal margin the rest of the way. Hawai'i converted three more 6-on-5 opportunities down the stretch in pulling away with the win.

The Aggies return home to face the Cardinal on Saturday. First sprint is scheduled for noon at Schaal Aquatics Center. Tickets are available at tickets.ucdavis.edu.
