DAVIS, Calif. - Stanford's Melissa Seidemann and Maggie Steffens each performed hat tricks while UC Davis senior Jessica Dunn matched that three-goal total as the top-ranked Cardinal picked up a 15-4 win over the No. 13 Aggies in nonconference women's water polo action at Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday afternon.
UC Davis moves to 1-5 for the season. Stanford, the two-time defending NCAA champion, stays unbeaten at 9-0.
Dunn scored a pair of 6-on-5 goals in the second quarter then converted the penalty shot on Hannah Curran's drawn five-meter foul early in the fourth. Sophomore Elsie Fullerton, who led the Aggies with five drawn exclusions, scored the remaining goal from two meters in the opening minute of the second quarter.
In all, UC Davis converted just 2 of 8 extra-player opportunities. Stanford was successful on all but one of its six 6-on-5 chances.
Steffens boosted Stanford to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter with a pair of goals then connected on her third midway through the third quarter to add to her team's 7-3 halftime lead. She also assisted on Kaley Dodson's power-play goal in the third frame. Dodson, Kiley Neushul and Anna Yelizarova each added two goals for the Cardinal.
Aggie senior Riane Woods led all goalies with eight saves in 30 minutes of action. Her counterparts Emily Dorst and Gabby Stone combined for five stops in front of the Stanford cage.
UC Davis remains at home to host the Davis Challenge on February 16 and 17.
