STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman and local product Christi Raycraft scored four goals against seventh-ranked Hawai'i to highlight UC Davis action in the Stanford Invitational women's water polo tournament at the Avery Aquatics Center Sunday afternoon. The Aggies lost to the Wahine, 9-5, to place eighth in the tournament. Earlier in the day, UC Davis fell to the third-ranked tournament host in an 11-1 game.
UC Davis drops to 6-8 on the year, having played four of its last five games against teams ranked among the top seven in the national collegiate coaches' poll.
Raycraft's offensive output represents her second hat trick in her young Aggie career, and the top single-game performance by any UC Davis player thus far in 2005. Senior Jenny Stephanopoulos accounted for the team's fifth goal against Hawai'i while freshman Ashley Greenwood logged the Aggies' only score against the Cardinal.
Senior goalkeeper Nicole Hall recorded three saves against Stanford, then Amber Korner added five more in relief in that contest. Hall also posted five saves against the Wahine in the Aggies' nightcap.
Top-ranked UCLA won the tournament, edging USC by an 8-6 final in the first-place game. The Cardinal topped Indiana, 11-4, to capture third-place honors.
UC Davis has a weekend off from competition before traveling to the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Invitational from February 25-27.
