DAVIS, Calif. --
The UC Davis women's water polo went 1-1 on Sunday at their annual Aggie Shoot-Out tournament, winning their first game against No. 23 Fresno State, 18-9, but losing to China's national team in the exhibition match. Since the Aggies' stats in exhibition matches are not counted against them in the regular seasons' records, UC Davis came away with only a win on Sunday, which bumped their overall record to 10-6 for the season.

In the victory game against Fresno State, UC Davis's Paige Virgil and Annie Kutt scored the first and second game goals, respectively, during the first half of the quarter, while Heather Johnson followed through with a third Aggie goal at the four-minute mark before the Bulldogs made their first mark on the scoreboard.

Virgil led the Aggies with a total of six goals throughout the game, four of which were scored in the first half of the game, while Sammy Preston followed behind with three goals in total, two of which were scored back-to-back in the last quarter.

Among other contributors to the UC Davis team score in the Aggie and Bulldog matchup was Greta Kohlmoos, another repeat scorer aside from her teammates mentioned above, helped the Aggies double their score 10-5 within the first minute of the third quarter. From then on, the home team went on to score eight more goals, with the eighth one coming from Cassidy Smithson with two minutes remaining on the game clock, to eventually bring the final score to an 18-9 victory over Fresno State.

In UC Davis's last game of the tournament, which was an exhibition game against China's national team that started right after their matchup with Fresno State, China scored six goals over the Aggies before Chloe Robinson found an opportunity two seconds left in the first quarter to score the first goal for her team.

To highlight the remaining three quarters, freshman Emily Aikema scored two of the five total goals over the China powerhouse, while Johnson and Smithson rounded out the scoring with one goal each to conclude the game at a final 15-5 score.

The UC Davis women's water polo team returns to action next weekend as they take a short trek south to Santa Clara, Calif., to participate in the Santa Clara Invitational.
