NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Sophomore center Allyson Hansen scored hat tricks in each end of UC Davis' second-day doubleheader at the UCI Invitational women's water polo tournament, held at Corona Del Mar High School's Bergeson Aquatic Center Sunday.

The 14th-ranked Aggies held on to a 13-12 win over Bakersfield in their morning matchup, then lost by an 11-10 final to No. 18 San Diego State in the tournament's 13th-place game. UC Davis moves to 9-10 for the year.

Hansen's three goals led eight Aggie scorers in the morning victory over the Roadrunners. Junior Paige Oreglia, freshman Carla Tocchini and junior Keelia Houston each added two goals, while Elsie Fullerton, Ariel Arcidiacono, Katrina Husted and Hannah Curran each chipped in one.

UC Davis held a slim 6-5 lead at the halftime break with Bakersfield, then tacked on another five goals to forge an 11-9 advantage through three quarters. Freshman Kristen Jensen netted four goals for the `Runners, which closed the gap in the fourth quarter but could not equalize.

Hansen tallied three goals while Husted had another two in the nightcap loss to the Aztecs. Arcidiacono, Houston, Tocchini, Curran and Fullerton had one goal each. The Aggies took a one-goal lead in the opening quarter and held a 5-4 edge at the halftime break before SDSU surged ahead with four goals in the third.

Junior Anique Hermann - coincidentally, the younger sister of UC Davis swimming great Linda Hermann - led SDSU with four goals.

The UCI Invite annually features the toughest field in any women's collegiate tournament. Nine of the country's top 10 programs were in attendance, plus another five from the rest of the Top 20.

The Aggies return to action on Saturday with a road doubleheader at Santa Clara. They will take on Concordia of Irvine at 12:30 p.m. then face the host Broncos at 4 p.m.
