SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Four different Aggies each scored one goal in a 5-4 loss to fifth-ranked Loyola Marymount in UC Davis' only first-day game of the 24-team Daktronics Gaucho Invitational women's water polo tournament at UC Santa Barbara's Rec Center Pool Friday.
The Aggies, ranked in a tie for 12th in this week's collegiate poll, drop to 6-9 on the season having lost six straight matches to teams ranked among the top seven.
Seniors Nicole Lorrimer and Jenny Stephanopoulos and sophomores Katherine O'Rourke and Cassie Schaefer accounted for the UC Davis goals. The Aggies scored one goal in each of the four quarters, leading 1-0 after one period and holding a 2-2 tie with the Lions at the break.
Dora Szabolcsi, Stacia Peterson, Alissa Volosin, Lindsey O'Farriell, Jessica Conner each had one score for LMU. The Aggies and Lions were the only team to play just one game Friday as the third seed from their 'D' pool withdrew from the tournament earlier in the week.
UC Davis faces Michigan, the second-place team in the `E' pool with Long Beach State and Redlands, in Saturday's 12:40 contest.
