SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
Sophomore Cassie Schaefer scored four goals and Jessi Lafayette added two more as UC Davis defeated Princeton, 9-8, in the latter of two games during Saturday's action at the UC Santa Barbara Daktronics Gaucho Invitational women's water polo tournament.
The Aggies, who lost a 7-4 matchup with 11th-ranked Michigan earlier in the day, snaps a seven-game losing streak and improves to 7-10 for the season.
UC Davis held a 6-5 lead after three quarters, but the Tigers outscored the Aggies, 2-1, in that fourth quarter to force the extra frames. Elyse Colgan scored four goals to pace Princeton.
In Saturday's previous game, the Wolverines overcame a 4-3 halftime deficit, shutting out UC Davis, 4-0, after the break. Jenny Stephanopoulos, Katherine O'Rourke, Cassie Schaefer and Jessi Lafayette each scored one goal in the loss.
The 24-team Gaucho Invitational concludes Sunday.
