ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Junior Greta Kohlmoos scored her sixth goal of the game and 10th of the day two minutes into the sudden-victory period to lift 13th-ranked UC Davis to a 16-15 win over 18th-ranked Hartwick, completing Aggie action at the Wolverine Invitational women's water polo tournament at Canham Natatorium Sunday. UC Davis also defeated Bucknell, 10-7, in earlier action.

The Aggies improve to 11-13 for the year.

Kohlmoos and junior Paige Virgil each netted six goals in win over Hartwick, while Kohlmoos had another four in the morning matchup with BU. Senior Hannah Harvey netted two goals in each contest, while Annie Kutt scored once in each game. Senior goalie Avery Dotterer blocked 17 total shots including three five-meter penalty shots in Sunday's action: two against the Bison and one that helped allow the Aggies to force overtime against the Hawks.

UC Davis fell into a 5-2 hole against 'Wick after the first quarter, but Kohlmoos, Harvey and Kutt scored in succession to tie the game at 5-5 midway through the second. The Hawks quickly restored their lead to 7-5, only to have UC Davis unleash another 3-0 run to reclaim the edge. Harvey scored the first goal of the game, then Virgil netted back-to-back to put the Aggies up by an 8-7 margin at halftime.

Junior utility Zsofia Polak scored three straight goals for Hartwick to put her team back up by a 10-8 margin by the 2:04 mark in the third. Yet again, the Aggies rallied. Kohlmoos scored with 1:44 and 0:45 remaining, locking up the board at 10-10 heading into the final regulation period. Kohlmoos continued to charge in the fourth, scoring her third and fourth consecutive to make it 12-10 for the Aggies in the first minute of the quarter.

UC Davis maintained a lead until junior Lauren Brennan scored with 11 seconds left, equalizing at 13-13. The Aggies managed one final desperation shot but missed, sending the contest to extra frames. The Hawks came out strong, with a natural goal and a power-play conversion boosting their lead to 15-13 in the first minutes.

Undeterred, Virgil converted a 6-on-5 opportunity after Kohlmoos drew the exclusion in the final seconds of the first OT segment. Dotterer stopped a Polak five-meter penalty shot early in the second half of overtime. Then Kutt assisted Virgil on her sixth goal of the game on another power play, evening the tally at 15-15. Hartwick was stopped on two possessions, sending the game to the sudden-victory period. UC Davis managed three shots in the final stanza before Kohlmoos connected with 1:08 on the game clock.

Kutt added five assists and four steals in the win over Hartwick.

In Sunday's early game, UC Davis led wire-to-wire in a 10-7 victory over Bucknell, one of the teams receiving votes in the national poll. Kohlmoos had two in the first quarter then one each in the third and fourth to lead the Aggies offensively. Dotterer collected 10 saves, including stops against penalty shots by Emily Konishi and Colleen Barron in the fourth.

Veterans Harvey, Virgil and Kohlmoos scored three unanswered to start the game against the Bison, then Harvey responded to a Gigi Rojahn goal to make it 4-1 at the midpoint in the first quarter. UC Davis led 5-2 heading into the second, and maintained a 6-4 edge at halftime thanks to a McKenna Hauss 6-on-5 goal.

After Kohlmoos completed her hat trick late in the third to extend the Aggie lead to 7-4, Bucknell scored at 2:03 and 1:15 in the third quarter to pull within a 7-6 deficit. However, UC Davis answered with three straight to start the fourth. Sammy Preston scored on a counterattack, Kutt directed an assist from freshman Kathleen Schafle, then Kohlmoos scored from set to put the Aggies up by a 10-6 advantage with less than three minutes remaining.

Preston also had three assists and two steals in the win over BU.

UC Davis returns to action in its Big West Conference opener against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at Schaal Aquatics Center. Game time is 11 a.m.
