DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore center Katherine O'Rourke scored three goals to lead eight Aggie scorers as UC Davis employed a 9-0 start to beat UC Santa Cruz, 13-2, in a Western Water Polo Association match at Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday.

The Aggies improve to 10-11 on the season.

O'Rourke and senior Nicole Lorrimer each scored in a 2-0 first quarter before UC Davis exploded for a six-goal second frame. O'Rourke converted her second goal in the opening seconds of the period, then Jessi Lafayette scored ona 6-on-5 opportunity less than a minute later.

The Aggies' stretch of unanswered goals lasted into the third period, ending on Christi Raycraft's goal at the 5:13 mark. UCSC ended the drought at 4:25 on a man-up goal by Lauren Donnelly Crocker, scored just as the 20-second exclusion came to a close.

Lorrimer and O'Rourke each scored goals to push UC Davis ahead to 11-1 entering the fourth quarter.

"I thought it was a really good, full-team effort," said Aggie head coach Jamey Wright. "This was a chance to see how our next group of six would play. Our backup players really took control of the game. That's great for their confidence and for mine to know that they can do that."

"We always want to finish on a positive note before finals. It's not about playing minutes. It's about having an opportunity to make contributions. So it was good to see people get those opportunities and make the most of them."

Lorrimer, Lafayette and reserve utility Katie O'Neill each scored two goals for the Aggies, which converted four of five 6-on-5 situations.

Cara Hipskind tacked on the Banana Slugs' only other goal with 1:47 remaining in the game. Aggie goalies Nicole Hall and Jane Crafts split time in the cage. Hall had three saves during her 14 shutout minutes in net, while Crafts added six during her stint.

UC Davis takes a one-week hiatus for the university's final examinations. The Aggies will return to action on March 25 for a home contest with UC Santa Barbara.
