LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Beth Jay, Kristin Pfaff, Alli Johnstone and Brittany Russell each scored three goals Friday afternoon as the No.15 UC Davis women's water polo team beat Claremont, 15-4, in the Aggies' first game of the Loyola Marymount Invitational.

UC Davis, which split a pair of games on Thursday to open its roadtrip this weekend through Southern California, improved to 12-10. Claremont fell to 6-8.

The Aggies wasted little time in taking control of the game, opening leads of 6-2 at the end of the first period and 10-3 at halftime. UC Davis led 12-4 entering the final quarter.

Jay, Pfaff, Johnstone and Russell led the Aggies in scoring, tallying three goals each. Melissa Agee added two goals and Michaela Brady added one. Annie Richardson scored twice for Claremont. Kelsey Whalen had three saves in the first half for the Aggies, while Nicole Ho had one in the second.

"We had balanced scoring, which was good, and we countered well from the beginning of the game," said UC Davis coach Jamey Wright. "We bounced back nicely from the loss yesterday and hopefully we can carry it through tomorrow."

UC Davis continues action at the tournament with games on Saturday against Cal State Northridge at 9 a.m. and Redlands at 1 p.m.
